Most people will wake up expecting their day to be much like yesterday because yesterday was much like the day before. A mindless complacency has set in. After all, the brain’s job is to keep things consistent and boring. No surprises wanted, says the brain.
But what happens to the average person when they are jolted out of that complacency by some event that suddenly takes front and center stage? Maybe, they have received a cancer diagnosis, or they’ve had a serious car crash, or maybe, their teenage son has been found on a rooftop with a rifle and a hard-on he can’t get rid of. Or what if it’s something even more bizarre? Some people will rise to the occasion. Some will fail miserably. Most will not be prepared to deal. But in between success and failure, they will find out what they are made of for good or bad.
I invite you to journey with me, as I tunnel into the darkness to shed some light on the human psyche and the thousand ways it struggles to survive in the chaotic wilderness of the unexpected.
